Derek Beaumont calls out journalist

Derek Beaumont

This weekend we will see Wigan Warriors and Hull KR meet at the home of Leeds Rhinos Headingley Stadium after Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium plays host to Leigh Leopards and St Helens as the two clubs take their shot at getting to Wembley Stadium for the Challenge Cup.

For Leigh Leopards it is a real chance to achieve a dream. Before the season Derek Beaumont talked a big game and everyone scoffed at the suggestions from the Leigh Leopards owner only for the club to really deliver.

They sit sit second in the league with less than 10 games to go until the end of the season.

They are also 80 minutes away from Wembley. Going into the game they sit above Super League and World Champions St Helens in the table which no one expected so some have them as favourites to win.

However, the backdrop hasn’t been ideal with rumours around Chris Satae being pursued by three NRL clubs.

The loose-forward has been an exceptional signing since joining the club last year and has gone on to skipper the side.

He could even lead them to silverware they way things are currently going at the club which is truly amazing given he was playing in the Championship a year ago with the then Leigh Centurions.

According to the notorious Mole down under Asiata has attracted offers from three NRL clubs in recent weeks.

“There is one club in Queensland and two in New South Wales that are interested in John,” his manager Pierre Tannous told Wide World of Sports.

“His form in England has been very good but he feels it is time to come home.”

However, Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has firmly shut down these suggestions on social media saying:

“John is contracted and I wouldn’t accept a million quid for him. Anyone reading anything around players leaving I can guarantee you it will be nonsense as nobody is for sale!”

He also revealed that talks are on going between themselves and Asiata about extending:

“John going nowhere loves it at our club not for sale not for any price! Talking with John to extend certainly not leave!”

However, the Mole has hit back at Beaumont’s comments with the Leigh owner branding British reports of this news as “clickbait.”

He even teased Beaumont that Asiata will definitely be playing in Australia in a year’s time:

“Just remember that tweet when Asiata is playing back in the NRL next year – he’s talking to 3 clubs now!”

Following this Beaumont challenged the Mole to ÂŁ1 million bet.

He replied: “Wanna bet me a million quid mole?”

Beaumont further pursued the bet saying: “Reward available for anyone who can find the missing a twitter account around rugby challenging people and goes missing once challenged come on I will give you ÂŁ5000 to your choice of charity for accepting your tweet was sh*t not holding my breath though!”

The Mole responded: “Ha – Moley doesn’t put money on things like this bro – just wait and see.”

Before Beaumont took a final shot at the Australian journalist: “But everyone would put money on something they were sure off! There’s nothing to see fella your chatting. Go stir elsewhere nothing to report at the leopards on players leaving!”
