Former Warrington Wolves assistant coach Martin Gleeson has taken up a job with rugby union outfit Bath Rugby after leaving the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Gleeson’s departure was confirmed last week, leaving Warrington by mutual consent after two year spell working within Sam Burgess’ backroom team. The 45-year-old took charge of the club’s attack and his spell at the club came after a period in the 15-man code working with Wasps and England.
The former Warrington, St Helens, Wigan Warriors and Hull FC player is highly regarded as a coach and he has now made the choice to return to rugby union. He has been appointed by Premiership side Bath and he’ll work as a backs and attack coach with the Somerset outfit.
Bath are the current Premiership champions having claimed their seventh title in June with a win over Leicester Tigers and they’ll be hoping that Gleeson can help take the club to the next level in their development under head of rugby Johann van Graan.
Gleeson will be working with some of the biggest names in the game, too, with Bath boasting a raft of internationals such as British and Irish Lions superstar Finn Russell, England’s Ollie Lawrence, Joe Cokanasiga and Scotland’s Chris Harris.
On the appointment van Graan, said: “We are excited that Martin has joined our journey and we are looking forward to what he will add to this team of ours.”
Gleeson said on the move: “What’s not to get excited about?
“I have been watching with a keen eye the team that Johann has put together and the journey they have been on over these last couple of years.
“There are a lot of people here that I already know so that was a big factor behind me coming here and I am really looking to building on what Lee (Blackett) has put in place.”
Warrington Wolves have confirmed they have started the recruitment process to find a new assistant to work under Burgess.
