Departing St Helens man Lewis Dodd has penned an emotional message to fans ahead of his move to Australia.
Dodd has been with Saints since 2017, when he joined from nearby Halton Hornets to join the club’s academy.
He made his Super League debut against a weakened Wigan Warriors side in 2020, in a 42-0 win, and has since won two Super League Grand Finals, and scored the winning drop-goal against Penrith Panthers in Saints’ World Club Challenge victory in 2023.
He also won the 2021 Challenge Cup.
However, next year, he will be playing for South Sydney Rabbitohs under Wayne Bennett, looking to improve on a disappointing 2024 campaign for Souths.
This comes after 88 St Helens appearances and 30 tries.
Departing St Helens man sends emotional message to fans
An academy product and a young startlet of the game, it’s a big move for Dodd.
In a message on Instagram, he issued a heartfelt message, saying: “Saints took me in as a 14 year old boy and I will be leaving a man.
“You’ve made me a person my family are proud of and for that I’ll be forever grateful to everyone at the club. Through all the tough times and the good times, I’ve made friends for life and memories for a lifetime.
“I look forward to watching the boys and the club doing what they do best next year.
“To the Saints fans, a massive thank you not only for this year but since my first day as a St Helens player you followed and supported me and the boys through thick and thin, I will always be grateful for that.”
Also leaving Saints this year is a club legend in winger Tommy Makinson, who made 336 appearances and scored 207 tries for the club.
They’re joined by Sione Mata’utia, Sam Royle, Waqa Blake, Ben Lane and McKenzie Buckley through the exit door.
