Departing Hull KR hooker ‘finds new club’ for 2025

Hull KR Craven Park

Hull KR hooker Reiss Butterworth will be plying his trade in the Championship next season. That’s according to a report by Hull Live that claims Butterworth has put pen to paper on a deal with Sheffield Eagles for next season.

Butterworth only joined the Robins in October after catching the eye in the colours of Dewsbury Rams. However, the one-year deal he signed at Craven Park is due to expire and with game time opportunities appearing hard to come by in east Hull moving forward, he will be allowed to leave the club.

The 25-year-old will depart Rovers without playing a minute of competitive action for the club with his game time this season coming while out on loan at London Broncos, Featherstone Rovers and his former club Dewsbury.

It seems he has done enough to impress Championship outfit Sheffield Eagles, though, with the report claiming he has taken up a deal to join the South Yorkshire outfit, who are sixth in the second tier at present.

Butterworth started his career with Bradford Bulls before securing a taste of Super League action with Huddersfield Giants in 2020.

Unfortunately for the number nine, though, he has been unable to find traction in the top flight and he’ll be using his time with the Eagles to put his best foot forward once more.

His exit comes as Hull KR prepare to welcome two more hookers to the club in pre-season. Catalans Dragons’ Michael McIlorum will replace the outgoing Matt Parcell in terms of seniority and experience, while the club have also moved to recruit Bill Leyland from London.

The pair will look to share the number nine role with Jez Litten, who has had another strong season with the Robins.
