Decision made on Brett Ferres after Grade F charge for altercation with official

Former Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants star Brett Ferres was facing the prospect of a mammoth ban.

The backrow left Leeds Rhinos at the end of 2019 which ended his Super League career which included a Grand Final win with the Rhinos against former club Castleford Tigers in 2017.

Ferres joined Featherstone Rovers but had one last hoorah in Super League with Leeds in 2020 as he joined the club on loan due to the pandemic alongside James Harrison.

After his time at Fev ended last year he joined Doncaster but was slapped with a Grade F charge of contact with the match official last week.

In the minutes from the match review panel, Ferres has been accused of “intentional contact with the match official” following Doncaster’s meeting with Dewsbury Rams.

The Rams’ Bradley Graham has been hit with a one match ban from the same game.

Ferres’ case was heard at a tribunal where he faced the prospect one of the longer bans we have seen this year given his Grade F charge.

However, the tribunal has found him not guilty.

The RFL made the following statement:

“Doncaster forward Brett Ferres has been found not guilty of a Grade F charge of intentional contact with a match official during the club’s recent Betfred League One fixture at Dewsbury.

“The case was heard by an Operational Rules Tribunal, initially on Tuesday evening and then resuming on Wednesday.”
