Daryl Powell slams criticism of his Warrington Wolves side ahead of crunch Toulouse Olympique clash

Warrington Wolves’ Daryl Powell is under pressure to get a win, there’s no doubt about that.

The Cheshire club have been in poor form in 2022, winning just seven games as Warrington sit just four points above bottom side Toulouse Olympique.

That being said, the Wolves have perked up in recent weeks with Powell’s men going toe to toe with the Wigan Warriors last week live on Sky Sports.

Warrington were winning 6-4 at half-time before collapsing in the final 20 minutes to go down 32-6, but it could have been a lot different had passes from George Williams or Connor Wrench stuck.

And, Powell was evidently keen to stress just how hard his side are currently working to try and reverse their fortunes, slamming the ‘rubbish’ being said about his Warrington side.

“There is a lot of rubbish being spoken at the minute, I thought the boys worked really hard [against Wigan] and battled through everything,” Powell toldĀ Sky Sports.

“I was really happy with the effort and commitment; I thought the fans really got behind the boys there and they need to keep doing that because you can see they’re really working hard.

“We just need to win the game [against Toulouse]. I think there is some unfair criticism; we’re in a tough spot, there is some criticism which is fair, but we’re looking to the future and building something special.”

There is good news for Wire fans heading into tomorrow’s fixture with Matt Dufty set for a return, just a week after being sidelined with a foot injury, and, Greg Minikin could also make a rare appearance since rupturing his ACL last year whilst playing for Hull KR.

For Toulouse, they will be desperate for a win, knowing that a loss makes it increasingly unlikely that they will be able to retain their Super League status.
