Daryl Powell named coach of the month

A turn-around in fortunes for Warrington Wolves in the opening rounds of the 2023 Betfred Super League season has been recognised with the news that Daryl Powell has been named Betfred Coach of the Month for February.

Tasked with returning Wolves to a top of the table challenger after a disappointing season in 2022, Daryl Powell has got his team firing on all cylinders straight out of the gate, racking up back-to-back victories in February, a convincing 42-10 opening night victory over Leeds Rhinos and a 26-16 win away to Huddersfield Giants.

On winning the award, Daryl Powell said: “We’ve started the season really well and everyone’s played a huge part in that. We had an awesome pre-season. There’s been a couple of changes in the coaching staff with Rich Marshall coming in from a defensive point of view.

“All of our coaching staff have been brilliant, and this kind of award is for everyone. It’s for the players as much as anybody as they’ve gone out there and delivered the performances. The thing for us now is to not get carried away and put in more consistent performances.

“For us to all win this award again next month would prove we’re doing that.”
