Daryl Powell includes some surprise picks in line up as three big names given big chance

Three Warrington Wolves stars have a big chance tonight to force their way into the starting line up for Round One in Super League against Leeds Rhinos next Thursday.

Unlike the Rhinos who have named an entirely young side for their last friendly against Hunslet on Sunday, Daryl Powell has named some big names in his side.

The Wolves have Josh Thewlis, who has a starting 17 jersey as the number two, at fullback whilst former Hull KR man Greg Minikin starts at centre.

Meanwhile, former Wigan Warriors prop and an impressive performer for the Wolves in the past, Joe Bullock starts at prop.

With Gil Dudson and Sam Kasiano set to miss Round One through injury and Josh McGuire facing a suspension, a big game could see him start against Leeds.

Here is the team in full:

Powell had revealed his philosophy before hand:

“I’m excited to see them play, we saw some of those boys make their debut last year. There’s a couple of senior players in there too that I want to see, Greg Minikin and Joe Bullock who I want to see put me under pressure for team selection. You’re looking at all those young players, Leon Hayes, Adam Holroyd, Josh Lynch on the wing. There’s young players everywhere and I just want to see them play.”

Speaking of team selection, he revealed a big call he has to make on the wing for the upcoming season:

“The decision between Josh Thewlis and Matty Russell is a really, really close one. I see Josh Thewlis as a massive player for the future of the club, whether that’s on the wing or at full-back. I want him to put pressure on matt Dufty and both wingers. I thought he played really well off he bench last week. For those guys it’s a case of show me, show me how good you can be and I know they will.”
