Daryl Powell gives honest Paul McShane injury update

Paul McShane (9) of Castleford Tigers passes the ball

Castleford head coach Daryl Powell has given an update on Paul McShane’s injury after the hooker was taken from the field in the Tigers’ 23-12 triumph over Hull FC.

McShane left the pitch in the 14th minute with what looked like a serious injury, but Powell has confirmed that it isn’t as bad as initially thought, with the hooker going for a scan on Tuesday.

“We don’t think it’s as bad as we first thought,” Powell said.

“But we’ll see how it settles in the next couple of days and then he potentially has a scan next week.”

Powell was happy with how his replacement Adam Milner went, though.

“Obviously he’ll be missing tomorrow but I thought Adam Milner slotted in really well last week so he’ll get that job again.

“It’d be hard for me to say time-wise but the gut feeling is he’s a quick healer.

“He rarely gets injured and gets through things pretty quick so that’s what we’re hoping for.”

Powell lifted the lid on just how painful the injury has been for the Tigers talisman.

“It’s an oblique injury.

“I don’t really know much more and the physios don’t really know the detail as it’s quite deep the pain that he’s getting.

“But he has settled down pretty well and I’m hoping he’ll be okay.”
