Warrington Wolves came up short on their away trip to Wigan Warriors in a huge game in the push for play-off spots.
The game was a clash between fourth and fifth and was therefore a massive battle.
In the end though Warrington came up short.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Daryl Powell reacted to the defeat explaining why they came up short:
“Probably the end of the first half we were 12-6 up and Harry Smith comes up with a bit of class. We probably should have done better on the kick chase.
“I thought we started the second half pretty slow and they hit two points. Then they scored a try and then probably that opportunity we had at the end where we put the ball on the floor and they ended up scoring pretty soon after.”
He also went on to say that they were missing some key players: “There’s a few in there but I thought the boys worked really hard. We’re probably missing some of our sparkier players that make things happen for us but we’re working hard and I think the last two weeks we’ve not been far away so we want to do better, we want to be winning games. At the moment, our boys are working exceptionally hard and we’re falling just short.
“We’re fractions away from winning games, but we’ve gone from being a team that’s got everything in place to piecing things together. We’ve got (our first) six again with five minutes to go.
“I think the boys need a bit of a breather to be honest, you know, just freshen their heads up and come back for what we’ve got left which is a tough battle, but I think we’ve shown over the last couple of weeks that we’re not far off that.”
