Daryl Powell explains shock defeat to 12 man Wigan Warriors

Warrington Wolves have been dumped out of the Challenge Cup despite playing against a 12 man Wigan Warriors side with Kaide Ells being sent off early for a head high tackle.

Speaking on BBC after the game, Warrington boss Daryl Powell addressed why his side came up short.

“I think you can trace it back to the first half. Some of the things we did there were just unacceptable,” he said.

“We made way too many errors and we gave Wigan everything they wanted and didn’t force the issue when they had a man sent off.

“After all that carnage that we did to ourselves we were still in the game but some of the errors we made were just ridiculous.

“We were never really good enough and never really had a clear head against 12 men.

“I thought they were unbelievable, they defended really well to keep us out.”

Asked if they need more composure, Powell said:

“100% we do. Some of the things we tried to do were just ridiculous and it hurt us. We were just 10 metres off our own line constantly in the first half.

“That takes all your energy away.

“We need ice in your veins and there’s some lessons there and we now have something to aim for.

“We were a little bit short of smartness today.”
