Daryl Powell details the ‘heartbreaking’ effects of Jake Trueman’s injury

It’s now well-known that star Castleford halfback Jake Trueman will play no further part in the 2021 season following a troublesome back injury.

But, few people perhaps know just how difficult this time has been for the 22-year-old, with head coach Daryl Powell underlining just how “heartbreaking” it has been to watch him in training.

“He has an operation on his back today and hopefully he will come out of that well,” Powell said.

“He will start on the road to come back playing next year – I think to be honest it will be a relief that he has found exactly what was wrong.

“The hardest thing was he didn’t know what it was and watching him walking round the past few weeks have been heartbreaking, he’s been twisting over and on his side every few minutes.”

The Castleford boss did, however, report that the surgery is not a serious one.

“He will be alright for pre-season and into next season, but it won’t be a big one for next year.”
