Daryl Powell admits past mistakes

Daryl Powell’s Castleford Tigers will be heading to Wembley for the first time since 2014.

That day, Leeds overcame Castleford quite easily – in a 23-10 victory. And, Powell believes he has learnt from that.

“I think I tried to play it down a fair bit in 2014 and keep a lid on it and in hindsight it was a mistake,” Powell said.

“We want to enjoy the experience and be excited by the challenge and that’s one of the biggest messages I’ve given to the players this week.

“We want to enjoy the week and the game and play to our full potential.”

Powell also revealed that the Challenge Cup had always been the target at the start of the year.

“It’s massive really, for me if I could have said right at the start of the year what would be the most special thing to do it would be to win the Challenge Cup.

“It’s an iconic competition and iconic in Castleford’s history – we want to leave our own legacy and history and for me that would be super special.

“It would be a massive piece of the jigsaw, I’ve always thought of myself as a winner, it’s not just about games it’s competitions too.”
