Dark horses for Super League promotion claim another win

Sheffield Eagles

In front of the Viaplay Sports cameras tonight Sheffield Eagles continued their superb start to the season as they defeated a resurgent Swinton Lions side who went into the game as underdogs.

The Eagles enjoyed a relatively fast start scoring within the first 20 minutes through the experienmce Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e.

A lovely ball out wide allowed QLT to jink through.

Cory Aston was unable to convert that try but he scored a very significant try shortly afterwards. It was the 5,000th try in the club’s history and his 500th point for the club his father took to Wembley glory back in 1998.

A simple try as he spotted a gap from a scrum – 10-0 to the Eagles but then the Lions stemmed the tide for some time.

The Eagles were unable to pull further clear and the Lions scored the first try of the second half after 10 minutes with Gavin Rodden charging down a kick to score and make it 10-6.

However, eventually former Super League Champion with Leeds Rhinos Ben Jones-Bishop scored after a one on one strip from Jesse Sene-Lefao and a break from Kris Welham.

That sent the Eagles on their way to a 16-6 triumph which leaves them third level on points with second place Toulouse Olympique who they defeated recently.

They are emerging as a major threat to Featherstone for promotion and the dark horses for Super League.
