Danny Walker reveals disagreements with Steve Price

Warrington Wolves boss Steve Price has headed back to Australia after four years at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, and hooker Danny Walker has had his say.

The number nine was brought to Warrington back in 2019 following Widnes Vikings’ relegation from Super League in 2018 and has since established himself as one of the in-form hookers in the UK.

And, Walker is grateful for Price and his influence, even if it did take a while for the two to be on the same page: “Pricey is a really good fella, not just in training but off the field too, he’s always just a phone call if ever you need anything,” Walker told the Rugby League Review podcast.

“At the same time with any manager, you have your ups and downs and have your disagreements and we did, but with Pricey he has definitely helped my game improve.

“In the first 18 months it was a little bit slow on my behalf which was due to a few off field things – I never really helped myself.

“I didn’t get much gametime and couldn’t show what I could do – it was frustrating at first.”

Walker spoke about how getting into the Wire team just before lockdown has helped further his career.

“Just before lockdown last year, he (Steve Price) was giving me more games and more minutes and I hope I repaid the faith in him to show what I could do, it just took a long time to get there.”
