Danny Richardson reveals two other Super League clubs that wanted him

Danny Richardson moved to the Castleford Tigers at the end of the 2019 Super League season after falling into the periphery at former club St Helens.

The halfback had stormed onto the scene back in 2017, playing 59 games and enjoying a fruitful early time at the club.

Unfortunately, things went wayward in 2019, with the number 7 being dropped for most of the season and missing out on the Grand Final victory at Old Trafford.

That prompted Richardson’s desire to move on and nail down a starting spot in another Super League side – and he had three to choose from.

“Huddersfield, Hull KR and Castleford needed a half,” Richardson told the Trot The Egg In podcast.

“Obviously Luke Gale was going to Leeds, but Cas had killed it in 2017 and were a top four side in 2018.

“I was like that’s where I wanted to go, things happened quite fast and I’d gone back to Saints and they wanted a fee, but we had a good chat and wished each other well.”

Richardson couldn’t speak highly enough of his initial welcoming into the Castleford fold at the Jungle.

“I went in straight away and the boys were class, the coaching staff were sound and I came with a point to prove and ripped in in pre-season.

“I really enjoyed my start there, I got an apartment in the city and made an effort to be the best I could, but the lads made it dead easy for me.”
