Danny McGuire set for another Super League gig

Leeds Rhinos legend Danny McGuire appears headed for a new Super League gig.

The halfback started his career at home town club Leeds in 2001 and went on to win eight Super League titles, three World Club Challenges, three League Leaders’ Shields and two Challenges Cup at the Rhinos.

He captained the club and won two Harry Sunderland Awards before joining Hull KR and taking over as assistant coach.

But he is now set to leave the club as per the Yorkshire Post but has also turned down Castleford Tigers.

He will surely take on a Super League gig elsewhere and could he return to Leeds Rhinos?

Willie Peters refused to comment about his future.

“No, not today mate,” Peters told the media.

“I’m not going to talk about anything that’s been said. I’m obviously aware things have been in the media, but we’ve got a game in three days’ time, so I just want to talk about that.”

Offered the opportunity to put the matter to bed Peters responded: “No, no. I’d just prefer to talk about the game. There’s obviously things that have been in the media this week, and we’re aware of it and all we want to do is concentrate on Saturday.”

Rovers have already faced Wigan in a semi-final this season, defeating them 11-10 in golden point drama at Headingley for the Challenge Cup semi, and Peters maintained that his side are as united as ever regardless of media murmurings.

“I mean, it’s Rugby League, you’re always going to have things in the media all the time, there’s distractions week in week out that the media don’t find out about or the fans don’t find out about; so this is no different in terms of there’s some media out there, but it’s got nothing to do with us at the moment in terms of what we want to do on Saturday.

“As I say, we’re three days out from our biggest game of the year and our focus is just purely around that and we’ll continue to do what we’ve done all year and that’s work hard for each other and the players will do that, there’s no doubt about that.”

He also confirmed assistant coach Danny McGuire is more than prepared to help lead the team on Saturday.

“Yeah, absolutely he is, there’s no reason why he wouldn’t be. He’s a professional, he’s a competitive person, player, coach and like all of us, all he cares about this weekend is winning, of course.”
