Danny Brough suffers suspected ACL injury in Wakefield’s defeat at Hull KR

Wakefield could be without Danny Brough for the rest of the season after he suffered a potential ACL injury in their Super League opener at Hull KR.

It compounded a miserable night for Trinity who were convincingly beaten 30-12 by the relegation favourites at Craven Park.

Speaking after the disappointing loss, head coach Chris Chester revealed the news on Brough.

“It doesn’t look great,” he said. “It’s potentially an ACL, he did it towards the back end of the first half and he thought he could run it off.

“But yeah, it doesn’t look great for Broughy and then obviously losing Reece Lyne had a bit of an effect on that right edge.

“I’m really disappointed for Broughy who has been great in pre-season and he has been looking in great shape.”

Brough’s absence will hit Wakefield hard with a number of key players already sidelined for several weeks.

Despite this, Chester has called on his players to knuckle down through the adversity.

“We have just got to get on with it and we can’t feel sorry for ourselves, the injuries are the injuries.

“The good thing is we have got some depth there, Max Jowitt will get a run next week and obviously Rocky Hampshire to halfback.

“But I’m really disappointed with the effort of the team tonight and I’m responsible for that.”
