Dan Sarginson explains his shock retirement decision

Recently Dan Sarginson shocked rugby league by announcing his retirement from rugby league.

The former London Broncos and Gold Coast Titans man is mostly associated with Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils who collide on Sky Sports tonight.

Thus, Dan Sarginson has appeared at the game to deliver the match ball and receive his heritage shirt.

The fullback / centre also explained his decision to retire:

“I think I played about with the idea for a long time. If I had listened to my mind, it would have stayed in the game and its comfort but in the end I listened to my heart which was pulled in a different direction.”

He also addressed what he will miss the most:

“I think the pre-seasons out in the rain and the wrestling in the mud, I will miss all of that but I think anyone would say its about being around 30 of your bets mates every day.

“It’s been a lot different sitting with my dog every day, I am transitioning.”

In terms of what comes next, Sarginson said:

“I am not sure yet, I have a passion for helping people and sharing my story and struggles and how I have come through it so if I can help anyone, that is my passion and hopefully I can explore that.”

Meanwhile, Wigan coach Matty Peet paid tribute to him as he presented him with his heritage shirt:

“I am very proud of him. It has been a privilege to see him develop. Even the way he has decided to go out of the game on his own terms shows a lot of courage and bravery.”
