Cronulla Sharks boss reveals club in talks with star man over new deal amid reports of Super League move

NRL

Cronulla Sharks are reportedly set to lose one of their key spine players to Super League in 2027, with full-back Will Kennedy linked to a UK switch.

Kennedy is out of contract at the end of the season, and reports emerged last week that, per LoveRugbyLeague, he is available for Super League clubs to sign.

The 29-year-old has only ever played for the Sharks in the NRL, and after making his debut in 2019, he has racked up 144 appearances for the club.

However, he could now be on his way out, and with no deal signed for next season yet, Super League clubs are said to be interested in his signature.

Whether the player himself wants to make a switch to the northern hemisphere remains to be seen, but Kennedy’s head coach, Craig Fitzgibbon, has weighed in on his potential exit.

Fitzgibbon would like to see the playmaker stay at the club, revealing that talks are ongoing regarding a potential extension.

Speaking after the side’s Magic Round win over Canterbury Bulldogs, he said: “We’re trying to keep him. We’re working on it.

“We’re talking to him at the moment. We’ve been doing that for some time, and it’s always a process as you know.

“Our value has not changed on Will. We want to keep Will, whether we can remains to be seen. We are definitely working on it.”
