Could Hull FC’s Jake Connor move to a Super League rival?

Jake Connor, love him or loathe him, is one of Super League’s most talented players.

After registering almost 30 try assists already in 2022 – even despite serious injury ruling him out for the previous month – NRL interest has come in thick and fast for the maverick fullback.

Hull FC head coach Brett Hodgson had previously revealed that NRL sides were interested in bringing Connor to Australia.

“Yes I am aware (that NRL clubs are interested in Connor) and I’m not surprised – he’s a talent,” Hodgson told theĀ Yorkshire Post.

“But there’s nothing concrete in that at this stage. Should that change then we’ll have a chat about that.

“It’s speculation more than anything at the moment. If or when that comes, we’ll discuss what the options are.”

With Canberra Raiders thought to be one of a number of NRL clubs chasing his signature, the opportunities seemed endless for Connor.

However, it seems as though the fullback is now set to stay at the MKM Stadium for 2023 after Canberra’s interest has gone cold, theĀ Canberra Times has reported.

Having been cut adrift from Shaun Wane’s England squad in 2023, Connor is seemingly up against it to return into the former Wigan Warriors boss’ thinking.

With Connor previously out because of injury, Brett Hodgson wasted no time in bringing in Leeds Rhinos star Jack Walker which made it an interesting dilemma for Hodgson to have against Castleford Tigers as well as moving forward for the rest of the season now that the former Huddersfield Giants has returned to the line up.

Connor was pushed into the halves as Walker continued at fullback, but it’s fair to say that the former didn’t have the best of games after he was taken off by head coach Hodgson late on in that heavy 46-18 defeat to the Tigers with the star’s face saying it all after former boss Lee Radford got the better of him.

But, there is an idea that has yet to be broached, could Connor make a move to a Super League rival?

On his day, the maverick is one of the best players in the competition, but will Hodgson push him into the halves again with Walker set to occupy the number one spot?

Connor has played centre before, but it’s fullback where he wants to play so it is a major quandary for Hodgson.
