Cornwall RLFC come close to first win

It’s been a tough but ambitious start to life in rugby league for Cornwall and today’s game was a great example of this.

The newest club on the block came within inches of a first win against London Skolars only to be denied by a late flurry by the Skolars.

It took less than 10 minutes for Cornwall to open the scoring through newest signing Aaron Jones-Bishop – brother of former Super League Champion Ben Jones-Bishop – touching down a kick to give Cornwall a 6-0 lead.

Sadly by halftime they were behind thanks to tries from Lameck Juma and Judd Greenhalgh powering over from close range to make it 12-6 at the break.

Cornwall came back firing and 11 minutes into the second half another kick led to a try from Purcell. Adam Rusling created that try and levelled the game with the conversion before he nailed a penalty to give Cornwall the lead with 20 minutes to go.

They were edging towards a win until back-to-back tries from the Skolars broke their hearts with Michael Greenhalgh crashing over before Jarred Bassett crossed for what proved to be the difference despite a late flurry from Cornwall which saw them score a third try giving them hope of snatching a win but it wasn’t to be.

The defeat leaves Cornwall stranded at the bottom of League 1 on 0 points just behind West Wales Raiders who have just one win. It also sees London Skolars pull further clear of the bottom.
