Since his hat-trick against Warrington Wolves, now former Hull FC star Josh Griffin has made headlines again and again but for both the wrong and right reasons. He was in red hot form but his red card against St Helens stopped things dead in their tracks.
This was because of something he said to official Chris Kendall. He was later banned for seven matches and fined £1,000 as he was found guilty of a Grade F charge of questioning the integrity of the official.
Making matters worse this has brought into question his future with his contract expiring at the end of 2023.
However, that has now been sorted with Wakefield Trinity completing the immediate signing of Griffin as the move closer to safety.
This comes after he was name dropped by WWE star Ridge Holland.
The SmackDown superstar is a former Hull KR and Salford Red Devils star and was in England for the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event in London.
He spoke to Sky Sports ahead of the event.
“Yes and no,” he said when asked if it felt like home, “London is a long way from Yorkshire. It is always to come back and we’re spoilt now we have done two shows for these fans.
“They bring the football match feel, the crowd do what they want and I am looking forward to seeing it.
“Yeah it is always nice to come back, you miss home. It is quite a departure from life in Britain, it is nice to get back in front of the fans.”
He also revealed how his journey to the WWE came about:
“I was always a fan of WWE from a young age, I was actually on my honeymoon and I got let go by the club I was playing for at the time and I saw a Tweet that night from William Regal championing the coaching services of Matty Jones.
“So I messaged him straight away and he got back to me so I flew home and started wrestling practice, six months later WWE try out, yeah.
“It truly is one door closes and another opens.”
Asked if he is still interested in rugby league, he name dropped Griffin: “I am mates with Keegan Hirst and Batty at Batley and Josh Griffin at Hull FC so I keep an eye on them but on the whole no.
“I have closed the door on that part of my life though I am grateful for it because it shaped who I am.”
