St George Illawarra Dragons star Junior Amone is already battling back to the NRL.
The stand-off was de-registered from the NRL after being found guilty of threatening a man with a hammer alongside his father.
Though he avoided jail time, he was sentenced to 300 hours of community service. There has been speculation he could move to Super League to begin his come back and now he has spoken out about fighting to come back: “I’ve had good talks with Bronson and he’s just told me to keep my head up. As long as I keep training, my mind will be set on footy and I’ll be getting better each and every day.”
“(Playing in the NRL) wasn’t a job for me, it was a dream. I was living out my dream every day.
“To get that back, I’ll do whatever it takes.”
His NRL future rests in the hands of Andrew Abdo who has been speaking to the Daily Telegraph about what the future holds including State of Origin eligibility rules:
“That matter hasn’t yet been decided. We need to think about evolving. The Origin eligibility around being able to play for NSW or Queensland won’t change. You need to have that line in where you have played your footy from the age of 13 in that state. But what we have seen is players choose between representing their country or choosing Origin. The debate is around if a player who has played footy from the age of 13 in NSW but has some ancestry in another country has to choose. That is the question that needs to be decided. That is a decision the Commission will make.”
He also spoke about forward pass technology: “This has been debated forever. It’s about the balance. We have to get the decisions right but equally the flow of the game. I don’t see that changing any time soon in terms of the current set up. We don’t want to tweak the rules too much. We need to respect there is a flow in the game. I don’t think we are going to be introducing anything soon until the point where we are not trading off the continuity of the game.”
