Fouad Yaha will remain a key member of Steve McNamara’s Catalans Dragons squad heading into the 2025 season.
The winger was thought to be in the final year of the two-year contract he signed back in 2022, with that deal expiring at the end of the 2024 Super League season. However, while nothing has been announced regarding his future, he was not one of the eight players released by the club at the end of the season.
There has been some uncertainty about his future in Perpignan as a result, but Serious About RL has learned that Yaha is now contracted until the end of the upcoming campaign. It is understood that the France international had a one-year extension option in the aforementioned contract and that is a clause that has been activated by the French club.
As such, he will remain with Catalans for the upcoming campaign at least, with his presence helping the club to cope with the losses of Tom Johnstone and Tom Davies, who have joined Wakefield Trinity and Hull KR respectively in the off-season. Of course, the Dragons are bringing in Tommy Makinson, while Nick Cotric can also play on the wing, but Yaha’s presence certainly provides strength in depth.
The 28-year-old started pre-season training with his Catalans Dragons teammates on Thursday and given the competition for places, he’ll be keen to catch the eye of McNamara over the coming weeks and months.
Yaha made just 12 appearances for Catalans last season and touched down for four tries. However, over the course of his career at the Stade Gilbert Brutus, he has appeared for the club 164 times and scored 104 tries, making him the club’s all-time top try scorer.
As well as Makinson and Cotric, Catalans have added Tevita Pangai Jr, Elliott Whitehead, Ollie Partington and Luke Keary for the 2025 season. Johnstone, Davies, Micky McIlorum, Mike McMeeken, Manu Ma’u, Jarrod Wallace and Matt Ikuvalu left the club at the end of the 2024 campaign.
