Confirmed: James Roby to make record breaking appearance

James Roby will break the Super League appearance record this afternoon.

This comes as he’s selected in Kristian Woolf’s side – unsurprisingly – as they take on Hull KR at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

The game is also Lachlan Coote’s return to the Totally Wicked Stadium after joining the Robins this year having won three consecutive Super League titles with the Saints from 2019-21 as well as the League Leaders’ Shield and Challenge Cup.

Those all came under the captaincy of James Roby and, despite Coote’s return to the side he is indeed the man of the hour.

Roby has won five Grand Finals in his career including three as captain and one as part of the 2006 treble.

He also scored the first try at the new Wembley in 2007 as one of four Challenge Cups he’s won and was the 2007 Man of Steel.

He starts at hooker today as Coote starts at fullback. The Robins have stuck with Elliot Minchella on the bench and Dean Hadley as the starting 13.

As for Saints there’s no James Bell as Jake Wingfield and Dan Norman come onto the bench with no Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook available.

The absence of Sione Mata’utia compounding that of Mark Percival sees Ben Davies starts at centre. Jack Welsby remains in the halves with Will Hopoate at fullback.
