Confirmation Challenge Cup Final will move

There has been talk that the Challenge Cup could be moved from the current summer final to earlier in the season – it’s traditional date.

Now it was confirmed that next year the Challenge Cup Final will be in May/June by RL Commercial’s Rhodri Jones.

He said on BBC Five Live: “It will be around this weekend.”

This begs the question, what will happen to the Magic Weekend: “It doesn’t have to be Newcastle. However, you and I have both been here since day one of Magic, when we were in Cardiff. We’ve been to Manchester, we’ve been to Murrayfield and we kind of found our home in Newcastle.

“Again this weekend, yesterday was a fantastic day, great crowd for that first game. So there are some obvious ingredients that make a successful Magic weekend. The city centre location is clearly one of them. The welcome from the city that we get is another key bit, as well as the financial arrangements.

“So we’re kind of narrowing down our options to some extent. We have a great relationship here. They are changing us a club, but we do know they would like to have us back. So I wouldn’t say no to Newcastle, but I wouldn’t say that we’ve wedded to Newcastle.

“The profile Magic Weekend gets clearly whets the appetite for certain landmark cities to come to us and ask us and inquire. Equally, we’ve probably got a couple of ideas ourselves of where we could host this event.”
