Concern for Super League sides as rival club chasing more top signings

Transfer stories have been dominating rugby league news and Super League news with big stories about Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Hull KR making the rounds as well as rumours about St Helens, Hull FC, Leigh Leopards and Huddersfield Giants.

Recruitment can have a transformative impact on a Super League side and we have seen that with Paul Vaughan at Warrington Wolves and Jake Clifford at Hull FC especially.

But the signings at Leigh over the last 18 months have been unrivalled taking them from the Championship to the upper echelons of Super League and the final four of the Challenge Cup.

Worryingly for their Super League rivals, the club are chasing yet more signings.

They have been linked with Owen Trout and Dan Norman and are still pursuing names.

When asked about recruitment, Adrian Lam said on the club’s YouTube channel: ” I will say we’re always open to communications to all managers.

“We do have a small squad and part of our philosophy here is to keep the window open for players coming.

“We’re working hard to make sure we improve our squad but those players haven’t been mentioned but I’m sure they will do in the near future.”

Going into 2023 they signed the likes of Gareth O’Brien, Tom Briscoe, Zak Hardaker, Ricky Leutele, Rob Mulhern and Ava Seumanufagai which has turned them into genuine title contenders.

Before that it was players like Caleb Aekins, Nene MacDonald and Josh Charnley which took them to Super League.

Don’t forget the arrival of Papua New Guinea superstars like Edwin Ipape and Lachlan Lam.

Both have been red hot in 2023 and have been linked with moves to the NRL.
