Kevin Sinfield’s The Extra Mile once more aired on Sky last night with viewers all agreeing on one major outcome: Sinfield should have been knighted.
The former Leeds Rhinos stalwart received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, but more rugby league viewers were shocked that he had not been made ‘Sir’ following his exploits in 2021.
Not only did Sinfield raise over £2 million in the earlier stages of the year with seven marathons in seven days, but then the current Leicester Tigers defence coach went even further, running 101 miles in 24 hours – which has again raised over £2 million.
Both gruelling challenges were in aid of his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, whose fight against Motor Neurone Disease has been well documented since his diagnosis back in late 2019.
But, as the documentary into the planning and achieving the Extra Mile challenge once more hit television screens last night, viewers are calling for more recognition in 2022.
One viewer wrote: SIR Kevin Sinfield. The Extra Mile documentary on Sky. Phenomenal. Inspiring. Powerful. Spine tingling. Just bloody amazing. Hopefully the @BBCSport realise this man should be crowned #SPOTY Donation made to @mndassoc.”

That sentiment was echoed by a number of other people.

Sinfield has already made it known that he will be doing a third challenge in 2022, but who knows how he can top the two already completed.
