Clubs announce new pre-season friendly date as snow forces postponement

Barrow Raiders

Barrow Raiders and Whitehaven have managed to hastily rearrange their postponed pre-season friendly. The two sides were due to meet at Barrow’s Craven Park home ground this afternoon to get their respective pre-season campaigns underway.

However, heavy snowfall overnight has forced Barrow to postpone the game, with a blanket of snow covering the pitch and stands. The two clubs have settled on a new date, though, to ensure the pre-season clash between the two Cumbrian outfits goes ahead.

Subject to approval, the game will now be played on Tuesday, January 7, with the game kicking off at 7:45pm under the lights. That’s despite Barrow being in pre-season friendly action against Workington Town just a few days after on January 12.

The clubs have confirmed that all tickets will remain valid for the clash, but refunds will be available to supporters from either club who can no longer get to the game in midweek.

For Barrow Raiders the game comes as they prepare themselves for the start of the new Championship season. The Raiders finished 11th last season in the second tier and they’ll be determined to build and improve on that in 2025.

Whitehaven, on the other hand, are readying themselves for a promotion push after their relegation from the second tier last time around and in a message posted on their social media channels, they underlined the importance of the clash against their local rivals.

“We as a club know this will affect those supporters who can attend from both clubs but the fixture is an important part of our respective pre-seasons and will allow Anthony Murray to see his trial players in action,” the statement read.
