Club release statement on out-of-contract star as rivals circle for his signature

Parramatta Eels have released a statement on captain Clint Gutherson after speculation that he could be moving away from the club.

Gutherson has been asking for close to $1 million for a new contract, but Parramatta seem unwilling to stretch to that amount which has put rival clubs on red alert.

Meanwhile, the Eels have released this statement outlining their plans for the rest of the season regarding their skipper:

“To allow Clint Gutherson to fully focus on football, the Club and Clint’s management have agreed to put contract discussions on hold until the conclusion of the season.

The Club will not make any comment until discussions have been finalised.”

The Eels take on Manly on Saturday hoping to stem the tide of their bad form as both Sydney Roosters and the Sea Eagles breathe down their necks.

If Manly beat Parramatta they will leapfrog them into the play-offs – that is, if Sydney lose.

But, with this cloud hanging over the Eels, it will be interesting to see how it affects them.
