Club ready to trigger Super League star’s reported “NRL clause”

This we have seen some outstanding signings in Super League such as Jake Clifford at Hull FC, Paul Vaughan at Warrington Wolves, Jake Wardle at Wigan Warriors and the understated impact of Nene MacDonald and James McDonnell at Leeds Rhinos.

Meanwhile, clubs are already working to make big signings for 2024 with Hull KR signing the likes of Oliver Gildart, Peta Hiku and former Castleford Tigers target AJ Wallace from the Bradford Bulls.

Warrington meanwhile have signed Lachlan Fitzgibbon for next year.

But with all the talk about signings for next year, the arrivals that came in this year we can forget the impact of new signings from last year who have been sensational at leading Salford to success.

The stand-off was unplayable late into the 2022 Super League season.

He guided the Red Devils to the play-offs from an unlikely position tearing teams apart with his running game.

The stand-off won the Man of Steel as consequence and took Salford all the way to the semi-finals.

However a head injury ruled him out of the clash against St Helens and he could have been the difference in what was a disappointing day for the club.

The club were proactive about his future signing him to a huge eight year deal but that hasn’t stopped NRL club Wests Tigers from having an interest in the star stand-off with the Daily Telegraph reporting that he is now a potential target for the club.

Now the same publication have suggested Benji Marshall and the Tigers would be prepared to battle for his signature.

There has even been a suggestion that the Tigers could trigger an ‘NRL clause’ in his contract though this would still require a fee which according to Rugby League Live would require six figures.

The Tigers have lost Luke Brooks to Manly Sea Eagles in 2024 after he was linked with a move to Leeds Rhinos.
