Chris Hill hits out at “cheating” claim from Paul Cooke

Former Super League star Paul Cooke is never short of controversy.

The halfback made headlines when he left Hull FC for Hull KR after delivering them the Challenge Cup in 2005.

Cooke is also someone who is always keen to share his opinion and he has suggested that Super League clubs are cheating with the way they use Head Injury Assessment substitutes.

This came after Chris Hill went off early in Huddersfield Giants’ clash away at Salford Red Devils.

Cooke claimed that there wasn’t a head knock and suggested that the Giants manipulated the head injury rule to get a free substitution.

He took to social media to say:

“I’m not one for saying a rugby league player isn’t injured or hurt. Not one for saying they’re not concussed. But Chris Hill isn’t hit in the head there, he’s 20 mins in and he is to be replaced shortly. His head injury is now a HIA that means a free 2 interchanges.”

He then called it “cheating” and compared it to the rugby union Harlequins bloodgate:

“Is Chris Hill back on?

“It is cheating in my opinion. Seen the replay of him being hit in the head, (not hit in the head tho).

“It’s like the Harlequins bloodgate scandal for me. How you prove it’s disingenuous I’m open the ideas of a solution.”

Chris Hill has now hit out at these comments.

He said: “Not sure what footage you where watching Paul Cooke but if your going call me a cheat I’d look at every angle.”
