Chris Chester addresses Fifita rumour

It’s been one of the most intense rumours doing the rounds in the past few weeks, but Wakefield boss Chris Chester believes that Trinity are not even close to signing Andrew Fifita.

David Fifita’s twin brother, Andrew, plays for the Cronulla Sharks in the NRL and still has 18 months left on his contract. But, the Tongan international has recently fallen out of favour with the club, prompting claims he could be reunited with his brother in West Yorkshire.

Striking a deal, however, is a long way away according to the Wakefield boss.

“We’ve had a couple of discussions over the last couple of days,” Chester said.

“There’s a lot of things to take into consideration. He’s got three kids that are all in school and there’s a lot to think about for him.

We’re a million miles off in terms of us actually sitting down with Andrew regarding the finances. We’ve not had any discussions about that, we don’t know what that figure will be.

“But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. We’re no clearer today than we were on Monday morning and that’s me being really genuine.

“The budget is there and so is cap space to bring in someone else.

“It would be a big boost to the fans and the club and it would bring the best out in Dave.

“He’ll add great value to this team. He’s something we’re lacking at the minute, some go-forward.”
