Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Chris Chester claimed his side “threw away” what should have been another win over the Leeds Rhinos.
Leeds avenged last Thursday’s drubbing with a narrow 20-18 victory over Wakefield at the Mobile Rocket stadium.
However, Chester believed his side did well enough to win the game, citing a lack of game management as the main factor in the defeat.
He said, “I thought we threw it away. We did a lot of good work in that first half and I think the frustrating part was that we did not make them work hard for any of their tries.
“The first try comes off a kick that goes dead and the second try came from an offload before going the full length then the Dwyer effort really took some sting out of us.
“I thought, considering what both clubs have gone through, it was a great effort from both teams.
“It was a game that did not have a great deal of quality in it but two teams that are fighting really hard for each other.
“Obviously, I am disappointed with the result but we probably could have had a crack at goal with two and a half minutes to go.
“That is the confidence that this group have at this moment in time. They felt they could go and win the game.
“I am pleased with some of the efforts and what we were able to do in terms of blooding some of these youngsters and giving others some game time.”
