Chester gives injury update amid short turnaround

Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Chris Chester has confirmed both Joe Westerman and Reece Lyne came off as a precaution in their defeat at Warrington.

Both players came off before the end during their 38-18 defeat at Warrington Wolves, but with another match coming up on Wednesday, Chester said he did not want to take a chance on them.

He said: “Reece is fine, just a bit of tightness. The same with Joe Westerman.

“We’ve got to protect some of these players that have played big minutes over the last seven, eight weeks.

“Joe, is certainly one of those. Reece is absolutely fine. Just a little bit tightness through through his hammy it just wasn’t worth the risk to keep them out there.”

He also gave a positive update on Tom Johnstone, Kelepi Tanginoa and Matty Ashurst, as he expects both to play against Castleford Tigers on Wednesday.

He added: “The one positive we have at the moment, is we have some fresh bodies to come back.

“Tom Johnstone will definitely play on Wednesday.  We’ll also have Kelepi Tanginoa and Matty Ashurst will be back from his suspension.

“Our left edge will certainly be stronger than it was tonight.”
