Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Chris Chester states that a lack of consistency cost his side today.
Trinity bowed out of the Coral Challenge Cup following a 36-24 defeat against the Catalans Dragons, the second time in as many weeks Chester’s team have lost to the French outfit.
Despite losing by a much closer margin, Chester was left far from happy with the result. He insisted his team need be more consistent.
“I am satisfied with the response to last week but not with the result,” He said.
“We genuinely thought we would come here and get a win and unfortunately, it has not happened tonight so we are all extremely disappointed.
“But we are certainly not questioning the players’ attitude this week.”
The outcome means Wakefield have yet to win a match since returning from lockdown.
Reflecting more in depth on where his side went wrong, Chester added, “They had a couple of ten-minute periods where they were dominant.
“We also came up with some errors and some ill-discipline that led to us conceding back-to-back tries and we need to be tougher and more resilient, especially when defending our try line.
“We are a good footy side when we play for 80 minutes but unfortunately, we are not finding that consistency at the minute.
“Playing well for parts of the game but then we take our foot of the gas and come up with some really poor errors.
“I also thought they kicked the ball better than us today.
“They had plenty of spirit out there today. We just were not good enough again on the day.
“We showed in parts of the game that we are a good footy side.
“However, we were not consistent enough in defence. Conceding 36 points is simply not good enough if you expect to win a game.”
