Chester Butler makes Bradford Bulls debut after two years on the sidelines after Leeds Rhinos recall hooker

Being on the sideline is no fun for any sportsman or woman.

But, being on the sidelines for over 800 days seems to make a month-long injury pale into insignificance.

And, that’s exactly what has happened for Huddersfield Giants forward Chester Butler.

Having signed from Halifax in 2019, the 26-year-old has played just one game for Huddersfield in three seasons following three severe injuries.

With his contract running out at the end of 2022, the 26-year-old is desperate to earn game time elsewhere and he made his Bradford Bulls debut tonight off the substitutes’ bench.

Butler was put onto the bench as Corey Johnson was recalled by Leeds Rhinos ahead of their fixture at Wigan Warriors on Friday night.

With Brad Dwyer set to be handed a ban for his late tackle on Gareth Widdop in Leeds’ narrow loss to Warrington Wolves last Saturday, the Rhinos are a hooker short.

Kruise Leeming will, of course, start but Johnson may well see himself on the Leeds bench.
