Channel 4 Super League play-off games revealed

Channel 4 Super League coverage has been a huge thing to shout about in 2022.

Having signed a two-year deal with the broadcasters prior to the 2022 Super League season, there was anticipation to see how it would fare amongst the giant that is Sky Sports.

However, Channel 4 has more than held its own against the powerful rugby league monopoly that is Sky Sports and has, in fact, brought in hundreds of thousands of viewers – some of whom may never have seen a game broadcast on Sky.

That being said, the agreement prior to the season was that Channel 4 would only cover ten games of the Super League season – eight games in the regular season and two play-off games.

Now that Super League is heading into the business end of the season with the play-offs coming round in a matter of weeks, Channel 4 will be broadcasting those two play-off games on September 10 and September 17.

However, it was confirmed yesterday that Channel 4 will have to share those games with Sky Sports, with the fixture not being exclusive to terrestrial television.

From the first game to the eighth of the regular season, Channel 4 has managed to keep an average of over 190,000 viewers and excelled on the first weekend with three-quarters of a million tuning in to watch Leeds Rhinos do battle against the Warrington Wolves.

It’s likely that the number will grow even more with the play-offs just around the corner, with people now realising that two play-off games will indeed be covered.

The main criticism that Serious About Rugby League has found with the Channel 4 coverage is that people do not realise it is on.

Well, we will continue to spread the word that Channel 4 live Super League games will be broadcast again on September 10 and September 17!

Make sure to tune in to what will be two cracking ties live on terrestrial TV for the first time in a Super League play-off!
