A familiar face is heading back to one of his old sides as Championship side York Knights have signed a former winger of theirs.
Ben Jones-Bishop, 36, is returning to his previous club after enacting a clause in his contract to leave the Sheffield Eagles.
Jones-Bishop left the Knights for the Eagles ahead of the 2022 season but returns after making 92 appearances for Sheffield and scoring 60 tries.
He spent the 2021 season at York and scored nine tries in 19 appearances.
A proven try scorer, York will be getting an experienced player back to help them get off the bottom rung of the Championship ladder.
In a statement on York’s website, head coach Mark Applegarth said: “I’m delighted to have Bish over the line.
“He’s a player I’ve worked with before and I’m looking forward to working with him again.
“He’ll give us a bit of depth and quality in that back line and take a bit of pressure off those lads that have been covering those wing spots for us.
“We’ve got a proven winner. He’ll add a lot of experience and value to our back five.”
The winger started his professional career at Leeds Rhinos, making his first-team debut for the club back in April 2008.
Following his six-year stint at the Rhinos, he moved to the Salford Red Devils before ending up at Wakefield Trinity.
He is also a Jamaican international, with six caps to his name, and represented them in the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.
His Super League Grand Final, Challenge Cup Final and World Club Challenge winning experience are much-needed for the Knights after fielding a relatively inexperienced backline in 2025 so far.
With a career of over 300 games and 200 tries, he’ll be hoping to help York following a disappointing start to the season.
York Knights next play Halifax Panthers at home on Sunday afternoon in the third round of the Championship.
