Halfbacks are the bedrock of success in Super League as we have seen in the past at Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, and St Helens as well as the improved performances of Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Leigh Leopards carried by the likes of George Williams, Jake Clifford and Lachlan Lam.
This is why young halfbacks are such hot commodities as we have seen with Lewis Dodd at St Helens and of course the brilliant Mikey Lewis at Hull KR.
Meanwhile, that is why Leeds Rhinos have been carefully developing Jack Sinfield in recent years.
Now a young British halfback could be headed to Super League.
The Game Caller reporting on social media that several Super League clubs are set to move for young Myles Lawford with the club set to accept a £40,000 offer for the halfback.
However, in an interesting twist a former Bulls coach Leigh Beattie has taken to Twitter to say that the only reason he is leaving is because the Bulls want or need the money:
“Myles wanted to stay at the club but there is 40 thousand reason why he won’t be at the club next year.”
Now Bradford interim boss Lee Greenwood has addressed Super League interest in Lawford.
“As for what happens with Myles beyond this year, those are bigger conversations to be had at the club that are beyond my remit,” he said to the Telegraph and Argus.
“We currently have Myles, Marcus Green and Jaden Barraclough out on loan and that’s been fantastic for their development, playing against men, week in, week out.
“It gets them closer to first-team contention for us than in an inconsistent reserves programme.
“I chat to the three of them every week and we discuss what they’re doing well and what they can improve on.
“We’ll see if the time comes if they’re ready to slot into our first-team set-up, and we do think Myles and Marcus are close to that.”
The Bulls are still dreaming of promotion themselves to Super League but need to address what went wrong as they were comfortably beaten by Widnes Vikings on Monday.
