Championship star says his new team will be “flying” at the start of 2023 season as they chase Super League promotion

Featherstone Rovers man Brad Day is backing them for a strong start to the season in 2023.

They impressed against Castleford Tigers on New Year’s Eve as they won 26-10 and Day believes the club will use the next two friendlies to gear up for a strong start to the season against Keighley.

In fact, he expects the Rovers to be “flying” at the start of the season as he said on Twitter:

“We’re putting systems into place and the next two games against Hull KR and Wakefield Trinity will be good tests for us.

“By the time we get to the first game of the season against Keighley we should be flying.”

This echoes the confidence of new coach Sean Long who was truly impressed by the Rovers’ defence against Castleford:

“I just liked how they scrambled for one another. Thomas Lacans chased someone down, they put a kick in and Bussey got back over there.

“Our defence we have worked a lot on that and to only concede two tries is good. If we can do that throughout the season, you will win the league that is a given.”

Meanwhile, he identified one new signing on debut who impressed him.

He picked out Warrington Wolves loanee Riley Dean for the way he managed the game and created tries for his teammates.

Long was also pleased with his middle.

He said:

“I think Riley Dean has come in nice and calm, he plays with a nice tempo and set four tries up.

“I think everyone impressed, the middles were outstanding and grafted hard. That’s what we will be about this year, the graft.”
