Championship side Sheffield Eagles will move home grounds next month, with the club forming a partnership with local football side, Sheffield FC.
The Eagles currently play out of the Steel City Stadium, and have done since 2022. However, with the club looking for somewhere better equipped to their needs, they have opted to move away temporarily as they look for a more permanent home.
Sheffield FC, who are widely renowned for being the world’s oldest football club, play out of the MEPS International Home of Football Stadium, and that is where Craig Lingard’s side will be moving to from next month.
The venue represents “a major step forward” for the club, who will be hoping to significantly improve the matchday expereicne to supporters, including enhancing the atmosphere and community.
Improvements have already been made to the Eagles’ new facility, including the installation of a new seated stand, better-quality dressing rooms and a media gantry.
The stadium has a capacity of around 2,000, and the club hope that ir will also deliver a significant financial boost, with increased revenue opportunities and decreases in facility costs.
The club have reiterated that both Sheffield Eagles and Sheffield FC remain commited to securing a new facility within Sheffield and remain in partnership with local authorities to achieve that.
Sheffield will play their first game at The MEPS International Home of Football Stadium on Sunday 24th May, when they host London Broncos in Round 14 of the Betfred Championship.
