Championship strugglers Whitehaven will play this weekend against Dewsbury Rams despite earlier confirming their intention to strike.
Former St Helens man Kyle Amor was appointed as the club’s new head coach following the resignation of Jonty Gorley, however, by the time Amor had arrived in Cumbria it became clear that the situation was untenable.
He offered an update on Tuesday evening explaining the situation: “Unfortunately, by the time I got here, I’ve landed with no performance staff, no management staff, no managers, and I’ve had a conversation with a group of players that are fully united in terms of they will not play any remaining fixtures of this season for Whitehaven unless some really, really drastic measures and conversations can happen between them and the board.”
It would now appear that drastic measures have occurred with Amor providing another update about his side fulfilling their fixture against Dewsbury Rams this weekend.
Dewsbury sit at the foot of the table whereas Whitehaven sits 13th. A win for the Cumbrian outfit could see them move out of the relegation zone.
Whitehaven set to fulfil fixtures
Kyle Amor confirmed ton the club’s YouTube channel that his side will head to Dewsbury on Sunday afternoon in a huge boost for the club and its fans.
“It’s been a chaotic baptism of fire and a whirlwind week if you like but we’ve got there. We’ve got a playing group and somehow we’ve managed to get them out there.
“We’ve had a brilliant training session, I have to pay credit to all the players. I didn’t think we’d get here. Not only the fact we’re here, but the way the lads trained, I’m absolutely buzzing.
“It was upbeat, energetic and it was fun and what I’ve got out there is what Jonty Gorley (Whitehaven’s former head coach) told me about, a committed bunch that is committed to this club and committed to each other.
“The main news is we’re going to Dewsbury and we’re going to give it our best shot. We’re hopefully, potentially, going to do something really special. It’s a huge boost, I’m really excited and I can’t wait.”
