Championship round-up as London Broncos break record and ex-Hull FC star steals show in 400th game

Round 12 of the Championship is in the books and it’s still London Broncos atop the division, and they’ve now broken another record.

It’s been an unsurprisingly dominant season for the Broncos given the fact they recruited with the intent of being a Super League club before ultimately missing out on the top flight.

As such, they’ve got a team that is, honestly, far and above the level of the Championship and that’s seen them rack up the points, scoring 619 in just 11 league games with 64 of those coming at the weekend as they beat Midlands Hurricanes to nil.

That win also meant that the Broncos broke their club record for the most consecutive wins, having equalled it last week when they beat Goole Vikings 70-10.

Goole were also a significant story this week in that they won 80-0 just a week after losing by a margin of 60 points, however, they were playing a North Wales side that had effectively been scraped together at the last minute after the club were saved by new investment.

Such a huge scoreline meant that the Vikings could allow for some fun and that meant former Hull FC man Liam Watts kicking a goal-line conversion from the touchline in the final minute, as he celebrated his 400th career appearance.

The action had started on Friday when Oldham moved to second with a win over fifth-placed Doncaster, however, that position wasn’t long-lived as Newcastle’s 54-6 win over Rochdale saw them catapult into second.

Halifax Panthers got a first win in five as they beat Dewsbury Rams and fellow strugglers Swinton Lions put in a brilliant performance to win 40-12 against Whitehaven, drawing level on points with the Cumbrian side.

Salford RLFC lost to Widnes Vikings who moved into fourth whilst Sheffield Eagles also kept up their play-off position with a 28-16 win over Workington. The mid-table clash between Keighley and Batley saw the Bulldogs nick it with a 26-22 win.

Just a collection of the Haves – lots of competition points, and the Have Not’s – no money, no players etc.
Come on RFL – Stop this happening!
