Championship RL results and round-up: Three hat-tricks and big win for Widnes Vikings as they bounce back

Another superb weekend of Championship has been and gone. With Batley and Leigh set to battle on TV tomorrow, the other 12 teams have produced some lovely rugby on Friday and Sunday which has helped shape the table for another week.

Over in the capital the rugby got started with a high scoring fixture between the Broncos and Newcastle Thunder on Friday night. A strong first half from the away team gave them a foothold in the game as they led 22-6 at the break and an even more prolific second half saw them pass the half century mark as they won 52-22 with Isaac Nokes scoring a hat-trick.

There were five games today including tight derbies between Barrow and Workington and Bradford and York. In the former, Barrow got back on track after a recent slump thanks to a prolific first half as they took a 22-0 lead. Workington battled back but Barrow nabbed four more points to claim the win and the league points.

Meanwhile, York maintained their strong form with a 20-6 win thanks to some try scoring forwards like Chris Clarkson and Danny Kirmond who both previously plied their trade in Super League.

League leaders Featherstone heaped the pressure on second-place Leigh ahead of their game against Batley with a comprehensive win over Dewsbury as Mark Kheirallah scored a hat-trick and Craig Hall notched his 200th goal for the Rovers.

There was a brace for on loan Aidan McGowan for the Rams who joined them from Huddersfield recently.

Elsewhere, Halifax continued their strong form with a 38-14 win over Sheffield with Ben Tibbs scoring a hat-trick. The first half did all the damage as the Panthers led 24-0 at the break. There were three tries in the second half from the Eagles including ones for Ben Jones-Bishop and Kris Welham.

The biggest win of the day was for Widnes as they got back on track with a 56-16 win over Whitehaven with Matty Fozard joining the hat-trick club for the weekend.
