After Halifax battered Dewsbury 66-0 on Tuesday to get Round 13 up and running culminating in another coaching casualty, six games took place today starting in Workington in a vital game for both Town and London as they look to steer away from relegation.
Town came away with an important 32-18 win over the Broncos thanks to a strong first half which left them 18-6 ahead. There were two tries for hooker Simons on a good day for the club picking up their first Championship win of the season.
Unfortunately, the game, which was shown live on Premier Sports, was marred by Will Lovell having to be taken to hospital.
In the game of the day, Leigh had just enough to edge Barrow Raiders in a classic clash. The Raiders started the season well and spent much of the opening stretch above the Centurions despite the financial backing of the former Super League side but a dip in form has seen them slip beneath the 1895 Cup winners.
But the Raiders were very nearly able to exploit a cup hangover from Leigh. The Centurions trailed with 10 to go but a try for prolific new boy Blake Ferguson on the back of an intercept levelled matters giving Ben Reynolds the chance to edge Leigh in front with the conversion.
That wasn’t all she wrote however as former Bradford and Wigan man Jarrod Sammut had a chance to level matters at the end but missed a 30 metre penalty to give Leigh the points.
Things were much more straight forward for Leigh’s rivals Featherstone who bounced back from cup final heartache in emphatic fashion to win 46-10 against Newcastle Thunder with Morgan Smith scoring a hat-trick in a statement showing from the bench.
There was also an emphatic win for Bradford away at Widnes as they won 31-6 with Ryan Miller bagging a brace.
The fixtures conclude with a further two comprehensive wins the first going to York who turned around 14-12 halftime deficit away at Sheffield to win 34-14 thanks to four second half tries without reply.
Elsewhere, a similarly dominant second stanza from Batley gave them a 46-6 win over Whitehaven as they scored 32 second half point to pile more misery on Haven.
