This week’s Championship action began in Sheffield on Friday as the Eagles hosted Batley Bulldogs.
It has been a rough start to 2023 for the Bulldogs after they reached the Grand Final. This time losing key players after a successful season has taken its toll.
They were comprehensively beaten by the Eagles who had six different try scorers in a 36-0 win as the Eagles scored 24 points in the second 40 alone.
The likes of Jesse Sene-Lefao and Ben Jones-Bishop were amongst the scorers.
Them on Saturday the same score line was recorded as Toulouse Olympique maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they defeated York in France.
It was an amazing four try haul for star man Guy Armitage as they scored 18 points in either half and seven tries.
Today, Halifax bounced back from their defeat to Featherstone Rovers last week against a London Broncos side who have tested more than a few teams so far this season and look strong.
The Panthers stormed 24-6 ahead as the likes of Lachlan Walmsley and Eribe Doro scored but eventually needed a Joe Keyes penalty to rubber stamp the win.
Elsewhere, there was a comprehensive win over Keighley Cougars at home to Newcastle Thunder well and truly putting their opening weekend thrashing to Featherstone behind them. There were braces for Roebuck and Storey.
Once again, Featherstone turned on the style scoring 14 tries in a 76-4 win over Whitehaven.
Joey Leilua scored a brace and Gareth Gale notched a hat trick as Craig Hall kicked 10 goals against Whitehaven.
They won the second half 40-0.
There was late drama at Odsal as a late Tom Holmes try and a conversion from Dec Patton gave them a win over former coach John Kear and his Widnes Vikings side to make it two wins from three to start the season.
Drama too at Swinton as a late Jordan Gibson try gave them a 20-18 win over Barrow Raiders who are still without a win to start the season.
