Championship latest: Ex-Castleford man scores five as PNG international stars in London Broncos’ latest win

The latest action from the Betfred Championship has concluded, and another win for London Broncos mean they remain unbeaten and in top spot as the play-offs loom.

After Round 20, there are now just six more rounds until the top 10 in the second tier advance to the finals, and with four teams all within two points of each other between ninth and 12th, wins at this stage become so much more important.

This week’s action got underway on Saturday, as Widnes Vikings hosted Barrow Raiders. The Vikings took a 24-8 win over the Cumbrian side, and as a result, jumped above them in the ladder as they moved up to fourth spot.

Moving on to Sunday, where the majority of the fixtures were played, and wins came for Sheffield Eagles and Whitehaven, after the pair convincingly beat Workington Town and Goole Vikings respectively.

Midlands Hurricanes saw off Rochdale Hornets with relative ease, whilst soon-to-be Castleford Tigers man Alfie Johnson scored to help Halifax prdouce a second-half comeback and defeat Dewsbury Rams.

Oldham RLFC kept the pressure on the top two after putting 60 points past Hunslet RLFC, whilst it was another hefty defeat for North Wales Crusaders, who had Newcastle Thunder rack up 90 points against them, including five tries from former Castleford man Andy Djeukessi.

Four tries from Robert Mathias and a hat-trick from Luke Smith helped London Broncos to a win over Salford RLFC. Before that game, Salford announced the signing of Warrington half-back Marc Sneyd for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

Lastly, Swinton Lions were nilled at home by a strong Doncaster side. James Glover crossed for a hat-trick, whilst ex-Super League men Bureta Faraimo, Luis Johnson, Suiaia Matagi and Muizz Mustapha also got in on the try-scoring action.
