Championship fixtures reversed due to major football event

The fixtures between Newcastle Thunder and Featherstone Rovers have been swapped due to a major football event.

If it has escaped your notice, one of the sleeping giants of English football has awoken in recent times in the shape of Newcastle United thanks to some major investment.

In the race for the top four, they are also a semi-final win away from Wembley and the Carabao Cup Final which was won by Liverpool last year.

This has prompted Newcastle Thunder to reverse their fixtures with Featherstone Rovers meaning that Sean Long’s side will now host Newcastle at the end of February with the Rovers initially expected to journey over to Newcastle.

In a statement on the club’s website, they said:

“Newcastle Thunder’s home and away fixtures against Featherstone Rovers have been reversed.

“In anticipation of Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup run and the prospect of a cup final for the north east Premier League side, Newcastle Thunder can confirm the reversal of its fixture with Featherstone Rovers.

“Thunder’s original home fixture on the Sunday, February 26 will now take place on Saturday, September 9.

“In turn, Thunder will now travel to the Millennium Stadium on Sunday, February 26.”

Presumably, this is to ensure as many fans as possible come to the home game which will now not have to compete with a potential trip to Wembley for Newcastle United.
